Encuesta – Mega Quizzing Carnival
1. Title of the Practice
Encuesta – Building a Knowledge Ecosystem through Mega Quizzing Carnival
2. Introduction: Promoting a Quizzing Culture in Higher Education
Quizzing is not just a competitive activity; it is an innovative pedagogical strategy that promotes critical thinking, collaboration, research aptitude, and a spirit of healthy inquiry among students. In alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), Encuesta fosters inclusive participation and equitable learning opportunities. By engaging both advanced and slow learners, this practice ensures holistic development and contributes to cultivating a knowledge-driven campus culture. Over the years, Encuesta has evolved into a prestigious inter-institutional knowledge carnival celebrating curiosity, intellect, and teamwork.
3. Aim and Objectives
Aim:
To nurture a vibrant knowledge-sharing ecosystem by promoting a culture of inquiry, inclusivity, and collaboration through national-level quiz competitions.
Objectives:
• To foster general awareness and intellectual curiosity among school and college students.
• To build confidence, stage presence, and communication skills in participants and organizers.
• To provide leadership and project management opportunities to student organizers.
• To ensure inclusivity by engaging both advanced and slow learners in event management.
• To promote inter-institutional interaction and partnerships among educational stakeholders across Gujarat and beyond.
4. The Practice (Modus Operandi)
Encuesta is completely managed and organized by Advanced Learners and the Student Council of ILSASS, with a special focus on mentoring and including Slow Learners as part of the organizing team. The event comprises General Knowledge and Bollywood Quizzes designed for school and college students from multiple cities.
The initiative started in 2018 with 200 participants and demonstrated exponential growth:
• 2019: 350 participants
• 2020: 400 participants
• 2021: 550 participants
• 2022: 620 participants
• 2023: 675 participants
• 2024: 1050 participants from 9 cities
• 2025 (15th Feb): 2100 registrations from 19 schools and colleges across India
Each year, a student-led Encuesta Managing Committee of 35–40 students (inclusive of diverse academic proficiencies) is formed. They manage the event end-to-end: ideation, promotion, logistics, content preparation, compering, and hospitality.
Building on its success, the same team successfully organized a University-Level Model United Nations (MUN) in Gayanostav 2024, involving 100 participants from 7 universities of Gujarat, showcasing the scalability and institutionalization of the model.

5. Evidence of Success
• Steady Growth: The number of participants has grown more than 10 times from 2018 to 2025.
• Geographic Expansion: Started with participants from a few nearby schools, and now includes institutions from 19 cities across India.
• Student Empowerment: Empowered 250+ student organizers over 7 years, many of whom went on to lead college-level and inter-university events.
• Inclusivity: Provided a platform for slow learners to develop real-world skills through back-end event execution.
• Spin-off Events: Inspired the launch of related events like University MUNs, panel discussions, and pop culture quizzes.
• External Recognition: Several schools and colleges now proactively inquire about participation slots annually.
6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required
Challenges:
• Logistics and Scale: Managing over 2000 participants requires extensive coordination, crowd management, and infrastructure.
• Digital Infrastructure: In 2020 and 2021, conducting quizzes online during the pandemic posed challenges related to platform stability and proctoring.
• Sponsor Outreach: Initially, limited industry and institutional sponsorship restricted scaling.
• Engaging Slow Learners: Ensuring meaningful involvement of academically slow learners required extensive mentoring and scaffolding.
• Post-Event Feedback: Consolidating feedback from such a large and diverse audience to inform improvements was time-intensive.
Resources Required:
• A dedicated Quiz Lab with projectors, buzzers, and online quiz platforms.
• Assured Financial sponsorships from local institutions and organizations for scaling prizes and logistics.
• Training modules in event management, communication, and quiz curation for student organizers needs constant monitoring.
• IT support staff and equipment to facilitate hybrid/online rounds, especially for remote institutions.
7. Conclusion
Encuesta exemplifies how co-curricular activities, when embedded with institutional commitment and student ownership, can transform into scalable best practices. It aligns with the core values of NEP 2020, SDG 4, and NAAC’s focus on student engagement, equity, and outcome-based learning. With strategic support, Encuesta has the potential to become a national-level annual knowledge festival, setting a benchmark in student-led academic innovation.
