Course Structure
Master of Arts with a specialization in History (M.A. History) is introduced by the Charutar Vidya Mandal University. M.A. History is the study of the past and the current interpretations of the historical. This course is for the students who plan to pursue a career and study Indian history and World history. During the complete programme a student studies various subjects, including: Ancient India, Medieval India, Modern India, World History, History of Gujarat, Historiography, Economic and Constitutional History of India, Indian government and politics, Literature, History of East Asia, history of Maratha, History of Imperialism and Indian Foreign Policy etc.

Master of Arts in History is a postgraduate degree of 2 years (4 Semesters) in the field of arts & humanities.

Eligibility
The candidates should be eligible for admission as per Charutar Vidya Mandal University Criteria. Student who must have passed any Bachelor degree conducted by the UGC recognized University or an examination of any other University of statutory examining body recognized as equivalent there to in accordance.

Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

PSO 1: Students will acquire advanced knowledge of historical periods ranging from prehistory to modern times, enabling them to critically interpret historical events, sources, and narratives using multidisciplinary approaches.
PSO 2: Students will gain practical proficiency in archaeological fieldwork, including excavation techniques, stratigraphy, documentation, sampling, and post-excavation analysis, equipping them for careers in field archaeology and cultural heritage management.
PSO 3: Learners will develop a deep understanding of Indian civilization through the study of ancient, medieval, and modern history, focusing on key developments in polity, society, economy, religion, and culture.
PSO 4: Students will be trained in the use of scientific and digital tools in archaeology, including GIS, remote sensing, 3D modeling, and carbon dating, enhancing their technological competence in heritage studies.
PSO 5: The programme will enable students to examine historiographical traditions and theoretical approaches to history, developing analytical and comparative perspectives across global historical contexts.
PSO 6: Graduates will be capable of assessing the significance of major archaeological sites in India and their contributions to the understanding of cultural continuity and change.
PSO 7: Learners will develop the ability to document, conserve, and interpret historical artefacts, monuments, and archival materials in line with global museological standards.
PSO 8: Students will cultivate research skills through dissertation work, field-based projects, and interdisciplinary inquiry, preparing them for higher research degrees (M.Phil., Ph.D.) and academic publishing.
PSO 9: The course will foster an understanding of regional histories and heritage, particularly focusing on Gujarat’s archaeological and cultural landscape.
PSO 10: Students will be prepared for professional roles in academia, government agencies (such as ASI), museums, heritage tourism, NGOs, and policy think tanks concerned with history and archaeology.
